The General Education program consists of more than 475 courses, providing students a wide range of choices when selecting classes. New course offerings are approved each year in three main requirement areas: 1) The Individual and Society, 2) Skills, and 3) Arts, Letters and Sciences. GE requirements can be found in the General Education section of this catalog and at General Education. Your College Advisement Center will provide assistance with GE-related questions, registration, graduation requirements, policies and procedures, fields of study, changes of major, appeals, and other aspects of academic life.
General Education is overseen by an associate dean of Undergraduate Education, who chairs the Faculty General Education Council made up of one faculty member from each academic college on campus. Each year the council considers new GE course proposals for certification, and ensures all GE courses adhere to the appropriate course characteristics and learning outcomes. In an ongoing effort to improve learning experiences for students, General Education offers matching grants to faculty for GE course development and enhancement.
