Course Description

Prepare public and school health professionals to educate individuals and communities about sexual health as defined by the World Health Organization. Includes discussion of healthy sexual behavior, male & female sexual anatomy & response, male & female fertility, contraception, menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, sexual and gender minorities, gender-based violence, and sexually transmitted disease.

Sexual Health

Learning Outcome

Students will be able to discuss the definition and importance of sexual health consistent with the World Health Organization’s definition and within the scope of Public and School Health Practice

Anatomy & Function

Learning Outcome

Students will be able to identify and describe the anatomy and function of male and female reproductive systems (including menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, fertility, and infertility) and discuss maturation, puberty, and sexual function across the lifespan.

Learning Outcome

Students will be able to explain the epidemiology of sexual health risk factors and conditions including sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy related health outcomes, and gender-based violence to audiences within the scope of Public and School Health Practice.
