Students will gain a broad-stroke understanding of the responsibilities of all key crew positions, with an emphasis on understanding what the student is undertaking and what is expected when he/she agrees to accept a department head or other key role - particularly that of Producer or Unit Production Manager; Additionally, the student will understand how all roles work together to create a collaborative and mutually edifying environment.

Students will gain a specific understanding and working knowledge of the responsibility of a film's Producer/Unit Production Manager and its accompanying practical application.

Students will discover resources for story development, how to create and develop story ideas at a basic level, learn to comprehensively analyze a script, break it down, to identify both implicit and explicit elements, and determine to which departments the identified elements belong. Students will learn to synthesize the information and how to use that information to develop a budget, schedule, and to generally prepare for production.

Phases of Film Production
Learning Outcome
Students will understand the essentials of the pre-production/planning stage of a film, including budgeting, scheduling and all elements required to ready a film for production [shooting], and also learn the basics associated with production [shooting] and post-production.

Learning Outcome
Students will understand how to wrap production, including scheduling wrap, the unique wrap requirements for each department in each phase of production, and what activities, reporting, tasks and paperwork must be complete in order to release cast and crew and declare a full project wrap.
