Course Description

An exploration of the impacts of globalization, migration, and information technology on dance and diaspora. The course will survey several diasporic dance forms, their roots, variations, movement qualities, and teaching methods. Social, cultural, historical, aesthetic, and functional elements will be considered as they pertain to authenticity, sustainability, and teaching/learning.

Title

Students will analyze and evaluate the effects of globalization, migration, and information technology on dance, diaspora, and living/dynamic cultures.

Learning Outcome

Students will embody and demonstrate emerging dance skills in at least two different dance diasporic forms such as African diaspora, Asian diaspora, or Latin diaspora.

Students will synthesize and evaluate social, cultural, historical, aesthetic, and functional elements of various dance forms.
