Critical Thinking

Learning Outcome

Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills through literary analysis, debate, dealing with unanticipated complications in conversation, forming and supporting opinions, and presenting on topics of general interest.

Learning Outcome

Students will explain how common cultural products and practices relate to cultural perspectives. They will interact with cultural competence in familiar and some unfamiliar contexts.

Reading and Listening

Learning Outcome

Students will demonstrate reading and listening comprehension of Advanced level texts such as narrative, descriptive, and explanatory texts. They will demonstrate a broad vocabulary regarding concrete, general interest topics such as education, work, government, and topics in the news.

Learning Outcome

Students will write and speak using cohesive paragraphs on topics of personal and general interest. Students will demonstrate control of frequently used structures and will write and speak with Advanced level accuracy.

Global and Cultural Awareness (GE)

Learning Outcome

Students will acquire informed awareness of a) a culture other than the student’s primary (or most familiar) culture, or b) the interplay of multiple cultures, languages, and/or nations. Students will engage in thoughtful reflection of that informed awareness in a structured, guided manner as evidenced by student written or spoken analyses (often involving comparison) in consideration of a culture, multicultural interplay, or global issue. Students will develop greater empathy and charity as they gain a broader perspective and learn to see themselves from another’s point of view.
